In a Sense I Become Them and They Become Me
The State Tretyakov Gallery. Moscow. 2019
The exhibition presents a new series of large-scale works on fabric and installations. In his works, Haim Sokol explores the issues of personal and collective memory and the mechanisms of its transmission. In this project, he addresses the more specific topic of traumatic memory and post-memory, primarily connected, but not exclusively, with the events of World War II and the Holocaust. The artist asks questions: can the memory of the victim be universal? How to remember what you want to forget? What do we do with this memory?
